The Microcosmic Orbit Meditation
Taoist meditation practice starts with opening the Microcosmic Orbit. The Microcosmic Orbit is a meditation practice in which you focus on circulating your life force through two of the most important energy channels in your body. These two channels, the Functional (Ren Mai), and the Governor, (Du Mai), connect in a flowing circle going up the spine, over the head, and down the front center of the body. The front and back channel are joined to form a circuit of continuous energy flow. This circuit is called the Microcosmic Orbit.
This is ying and yang in practice, connecting the masculine back channel and feminine front channel. Bringing your tongue to the roof of your mouth generates this conenction. Also referred to as the small heavenly cycle, this meditation allows your to increase, recycle, and store reservoirs of chi in an energy center in your abdomen called the lower “Dan Tien.
Your meditation is further enhanced by blending and supplementing your body’s own energy with the energies of Nature, the Universal, Cosmic, and Earth Forces which surround us. This not only raises your ‘vibration’, but greatly increased resistance to stress and illness.
The Microcosmic Orbit moves energy in a circular motion up the spine, over the head, down the front of the body, under the torso and up the spine again. At the end the energy is brought down to the dan tien at the naval area.

“…I have your microcosmic orbit meditation cd and it is amazing. I am feeling energy moving that I haven’t before. You did a great job guiding the meditation. Thank You, Brian”
There are practical and tangible health benefits from opening the Microcosmic Orbit. The most evident is an increased resistance to illness and stress and an increase in overall energy levels due to conserving and recycling your life force energy. Less internal stress helps the immune system by promoting a freer flow of lymph fluids.
“By learning to tap the natural energies of the Sun, Moon,
Earth, Stars and environmental forces around us,
the practitioner attains the ability to develop
and nurture a solid spiritual body.
The ultimate goal of Taoist practice is
to transcend physical boundaries
through the development of the soul and the spirit within man.”
